Healthy living is buckling up whenever you are in a vehicle. Using seat belts have saved 75,000 lives during a four year period. If you ride a motorcycle or a bike by all means wear a helmet. The NHTSA claims that helmets saved 1,829 motorcyclists in the year 2008. Make sure you wear a helmet if you roller skate, ice skate, do off road ATV riding or go snowmobiling.
Focus on the cluster of questions around stem cell research and cloning for a moment. One group of “dedicated and committed researchers” considers the human embryo a ball of cells and nothing more. Because it is undeveloped and would not survive out of the womb, any research is permissible, including the new proposals. The medical benefits, remote as they may be, wholly justify the action. At the opposite pole, many of us Christians (I only wish I could say the majority) believe that from conception onwards the embryo has the full status of humanity. On principle, this allows no research or use not for the benefit of that particular embryo, including both present and new potential uses.
I was relieved and overjoyed when we had an ultrasound at 18 weeks showing a healthy baby girl. I was finally able to breathe a sigh of relief. My behavior had been bizarre enough that my husband later told me he was also worried that something was wrong with me or the baby.
Living for the moment with no regard for the future is dangerous business. As the old expression goes, “If you fail to plan you plan to fail.” You may counter with, “But we are not guaranteed tomorrow” or “you can’t know what tomorrow brings.” I would have to agree with your response. But you can have an infinitely greater chance of success if you seek an intentional outcome.
This means that the survival rate does not look so great when it comes to lung cancer. According to the Department of health and human services, lung cancer accounted for more deaths than breast cancer, prostate cancer, and colon cancer combined in 2005. Lung cancer statistics show that, in that year, 107,416 men and 89,271 women were diagnosed with lung cancer. Also in that year, 90,139 men and 69,078 women died from lung cancer. (Also, note that you should use caution when comparing incidence and death counts.) However, despite these numbers, some people actually are cured of lung cancer.
My poor daughter suffered through stress with me from her conception. It didn’t take long to realize she was a high need baby. I was breastfeeding and Mia wanted absolutely no one but me. She would scream wildly if my husband or my mother tried to feed her a bottle of breast milk – which put more strain on me. Mia would cry hysterically if i wasn’t holding her. No one else could hold her for longer than five minutes before she fell apart with tears and infant sobs – wanting me.
